Just so you know, what you see going on here is exactly what’s going on with our wedding plans.
That is, approximately nothing.
Sure, the cake lady called me today and Dan and I looked at dress patterns last night, but all in all, nothing has actually changed since I last posted. You didn’t miss much.
However, if you want some sort of update so as not to feel cheated, we did decide to go on our second road trip and first random day trip together last Sunday. Lindsborg, KS, for those of you not blessed to know of such places, is also known as Little Sweden, and Little Sweden rolls up the sidewalk on Sundays after church lets out. So we walked around the deserted town square, looking at giant, folksy Dala horses (because having giant, poorly painted statues sitting around your town is big these days) and any number of wooden shoes and happy Dutch children scrawled on just about every flat surface. Museums were closed. The tourist bureau was closed. The art museum was closed. Plan A: Fail.
So we moved on to Plan B.
Kansas is home to a couple large hills of no real report, none of which are around here. So we went to the next best thing: an unimpressive hill of made-up report. The legend has it that Coronado Heights is where the aforementioned Spanish explorer gave up his search for El Dorado, the lost city of Gold. In actuality, some Spanish armor was found in an Indian excavation a couple miles south and during the Depression, people needed jobs, so they had them build a crappy little castle on top of a hill to attract tourists. And well, old tourist attractions are kinda cool, so we went. We climbed to the top and looked at the vast expanse of Kansas in all its flatness and it was lovely and made the trip mostly worth it. And then we drove to Newton where everything was also closed, had a couple serious relationship discussions in the car, ate at Cracker Barrel (did you know you could have eggs AND chicken fried chicken AND biscuits and gravy AND hashbrown casserole in one meal and not technically die of heart failure? I sure didn’t!) and called it a day.
And meanwhile, we still have nothing booked.
No invitations.
No dresses.
No suits.
No patterns.
No decorations.
Nothing.
Man, we are awesome at weddings. Let’s pray we only have to do this once, okay? :D
